Transforming Animal Welfare in New Jersey
Partners in Animal Welfare is dedicated to advancing animal welfare across New Jersey. We believe that meaningful, lasting change for animals happens when communities, donors, and advocates, work together on behalf of animals and animal welfare organizations.
We fund emergency medical grants for animals in crisis, support shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries working on the front lines of animal welfare, and help pet owners who are struggling to keep the animals they love.
We also advocate for stronger animal welfare policies across New Jersey and bring those who love animals together through education and outreach.
WHY WE ACT
The Crisis
Animal welfare organizations across New Jersey face overwhelming challenges. Rising veterinary costs, increased owner surrenders, limited shelter capacity, and economic hardship have placed extraordinary strain on rescues, shelters, and sanctuaries.
Many families are also struggling to access the resources needed to keep their pets safe, healthy, and in their homes. At the same time, those who love animals are often unaware there is a crisis.
WHAT WE DO
funding solutions that strengthen animal welfare in new jersey
PAW exists to help close those gaps in need. We fund grants that provide access to critical medical and other care, support programs that prevent pet surrenders and, through networking and educational programs, bring together animal lovers to meet and learn ways to support animals in need. Our core priorities are:

Providing grants and financial support for medical care, transport of animals from high kill areas, pet retention programs, and specialized support for senior and at-risk animals.
education
Creating opportunities for education, collaboration, networking, and professional development through community engagement, partnerships, and access to animal welfare resources and expertise.

Friends of Montclair Animals
PAW is pleased to announce its recent merger with the Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter, a 15 year old program dedicated to supporting animals at the Montclair Township Animal Shelter. With the merger, FOMTAS, now FOMAS ( Friends of Montclair Animals), a dedicated program of PAW, will support vulnerable animals, and people who care for them throughout the entire Montclair community.

Thanks to Karen and the kindhearted people of Partners In Animal Welfare, we received a $1000 grant to put towards the medical needs of the Newark dogs who were featured in that plea for help! original sanctuary until they are ready to go to their forever homes

Grant Makers Initiative
The Grant Makers Initiative (GMI) connects donors, businesses, and community advocates directly to lifesaving animal welfare funding opportunities throughout New Jersey.
Through GMI, supporters play an active role in helping fund critical medical care, prevention programs, and community-based initiatives that improve outcomes for animals in need.
With a qualifying contribution of $5,000 or more, GMI supporters may receive opportunities and tangible benefits such as:
- Having a grant named in their honor in recognition of your dedication to animal welfare
- Impact updates highlighting animals and programs helped through their funding
- Increased visibility for businesses committed to ethical community impact and animal welfare
